  Midnight encounter

Captain Lawrence Coyne and his crew were flying a UH-1H helicopter when a brilliant red light approached at high speed. The craft seemed to stop above them, causing their altimeter to spin and the helicopter to climb without input.123

  Lasting impressions

After a few seconds the object shot westward and disappeared. The airmen filed reports with the FAA and Army.23 The incident received national media attention and remains a classic pilot sighting.345
