The Department of War declassified and released the document for the first time as part of PURSUE Release 05 on August 7, 2026. 123

  Provenance and Analysis

The Air Intelligence Division prepared the report to correlate independent radar returns with visual descriptions submitted by pilots and ground observers during the July 1965 contacts. The evaluation weighs three possible explanations: a coordinated foreign reconnaissance effort, an atmospheric phenomenon, or an unknown technological presence. The document does not settle on one of the three.3
