Report

The FY2024 AARO/ODNI annual report to Congress tallies hundreds of newly reported UAP sightings and their resolution status.

Disclosure Rating — 7/10

On November 14, 2024, the Department of Defense and Office of the Director of National Intelligence released the Fiscal Year 2024 Consolidated Annual Report on UAP.1 AARO received 757 reports covered by the document: 485 concerned incidents during the May 1, 2023, to June 1, 2024, reporting period, and 272 concerned incidents from 2021 and 2022 that had not appeared in earlier annual reports.2

  Statistical Breakdown and Resolutions

The report categorized the 757 reports as follows: 49 resolved to prosaic objects, 243 recommended for closure pending peer review, 21 meriting further analysis, and 444 lacking sufficient data and placed in the Active Archive.2

The 49 resolved cases involved balloons, birds, and unmanned aerial systems.2 The 243 cases recommended for closure also resolved to prosaic objects, including balloons, birds, unmanned aerial systems, satellites, and aircraft.2

  Reporting Sources and Data Limits

All reports came through United States military operational channels or Federal Aviation Administration civil and commercial aviation logs, with 392 supplied by the FAA.2 AARO received no reports collected through national GEOINT, SIGINT, or MASINT platforms during the reporting period.2

The report says a lack of timely, actionable sensor data constrained case resolution and describes work with military and technical partners to improve sensor requirements, information sharing, and report content.2
