Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory metallurgist R. D. Moeller investigated binary plutonium–aluminum alloys to support pit casting and fuel development. The 87-page LA-1000 study charts phase equilibria, heat-treatment response, hardness trends, and casting behavior across compositions from 0.5 to 100 atomic percent aluminum. Moeller noted the delta solid solution stabilised by higher aluminum content could be hot-worked, while alpha plutonium alloys remained brittle at room temperature.
