Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr., unidentified anomalous phenomena and potential extraterrestrial questions, and additional subjects at the chairman’s discretion.[^4]\n\nDuring September 2025, the task force shifted into hearing operations centered on unidentified anomalous phenomena. The September 3, 2025 announcement framed oversight goals as disclosure of UAP-related materials, evaluation of DoD and intelligence-community handling, and review of AARO performance.[^5] The September 9 hearing took place and was followed by a wrap-up emphasizing persistent information gaps, whistleblower protection for UAP reporters, and calls to standardize federal reporting processes.[^6]\n\nOn September 15, 2025, oversight activity expanded into CCP-linked influence funding, with task force leadership joining the committee in asking Treasury for sanctions, seizure, and civil remedy assessment tied to Neville Roy Singham-linked entities and requesting ongoing briefings on enforcement capacity.[^7]\n\nBy January 2026, the task force emphasis had evolved toward historical-declassification work. The January 20 hearing announcement and January 22 opening statement set a mandate around sealed and redacted MLK assassination files and compliance with Presidential declassification direction.[^8][^9] The January 23 wrap-up records that the hearing treated transparency around records, surveillance-state comparisons, and public trust as central outputs of the task force investigation.[^10]\n\n## References\n\n[^1]: [Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets](https://oversight.house.gov/subcommittee/task-force-on-the-declassification-of-federal-secrets/)\n[^2]: [Oversight Committee Seeks Epstein-Maxwell Suspicious Activity Reports from Treasury Department (August 31, 2025)](https://oversight.house.gov/release/oversight-committee-seeks-epstein-maxwell-suspicious-activity-reports-from-treasury-department/)\n[^3]: [Oversight Committee Seeks Epstein-Maxwell Suspicious Activity Reports from Treasury Department, background on task force leadership (August 31, 2025)](https://oversight.house.gov/release/oversight-committee-seeks-epstein-maxwell-suspicious-activity-reports-from-treasury-department/)\n[^4]: [Task Force Letters, February 11, 2025 (PDF)](https://oversight.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Task-Force-Letters.pdf)\n[^5]: [Luna Announces Hearing on Transparency Relating to Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (September 3, 2025)](https://oversight.house.gov/release/luna-announces-hearing-on-transparency-relating-to-unidentified-anomalous-phenomena/)\n[^6]: [Hearing Wrap Up: Government Must Be More Transparent About UAPs (September 9, 2025)](https://oversight.house.gov/release/hearing-wrap-up-government-must-be-more-transparent-about-uaps/)\n[^7]: [Comer and Luna Ramp Up Probe into CCP-Linked Funding Fueling Civil Unrest in the United States (September 15, 2025)](https://oversight.house.gov/release/comer-and-luna-ramp-up-probe-into-ccp-linked-funding-fueling-civil-unrest-in-the-united-states/)\n[^8]: [Luna Announces Task Force Hearing on the Declassified MLK Records (January 20, 2026)](https://oversight.house.gov/release/luna-announces-task-force-hearing-on-the-declassified-mlk-records/)\n[^9]: [Luna Opens Hearing on Declassified MLK Records (January 22, 2026)](https://oversight.house.gov/release/luna-opens-hearing-on-declassified-mlk-records/)\n[^10]: [Hearing Wrap Up: Government Should Restore Americans’ Trust in Its Record-Keeping by Promoting Transparency and Accountability (January 23, 2026)](https://oversight.house.gov/release/hearing-wrap-up-government-should-restore-americans-trust-in-its-record-keeping-by-promoting-transparency-and-accountability/)","readingTime":"3 min read"},"relatedRecords":[],"citation":{"canonicalUrl":"https://disclosdex.com/programs/task-force-on-declassification-of-federal-secrets","title":"Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets","publisher":"Disclosdex","retrievedFrom":"https://disclosdex.com/api/v1/programs/task-force-on-declassification-of-federal-secrets","license":"CC-BY-4.0"}}
